Call of Duty

Another full day today despite me actually writing a text to my boss first thing in the morning that I wanted to take things slow for the day. I had a really rough night dealing with my son’s tantrum last night.

But I pushed through the day anyway because the task I had to attend to was for a greater good – specially designed proposal for the true heroes out there. The proposal is at the last lap, hopefully when it gets through and implemented, it will brighten up the lives of our heroes out there, while they continue to put their lives at risk to fulfill their call of duty.

To me – this was my call of duty.

The usual me got sucked in to work for the  rest of the day. But luckily I was reminded that the Prime Minister was giving his speech on the economic stimulus package to counter the COVID-19 pandemic impact. I missed the earlier part of the speech but managed to catch up on Facebook Live.

As the Prime Minister was delivering his speech, the full text of the speech came into my mobile from various sources – how dissemination of information have (scarily) changed in today’s world. You can’t hide anything anymore.

As I read through the speech I came across the last two paragraphs, the only part of the speech written in full English (majority of the speech was in Malay). I must admit my eyes was teary, moved by the wordings of the text.

When our 8th Prime Minister actually said it, I can sense the sincerity in the words he uttered.

We are a nation at war with invisible forces. The situation we are now facing is unprecedented in history. And, this government may not be the government that you voted for. But I want all of you to know that this government cares for you. I resigned to the fact that I came in as your Prime Minister not at the best moment. I face political, economic and health crisis all at the same time.

This unprecedented situation of course requires unprecedented measures. So, my dear brothers and sisters, and the children of this beloved country, whether you are a Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Iban, Kadazan, Dusun, orang asal, please bear with me and my friends in the cabinet and the government. We are not perfect, but we are doing the best we can to pull through this crisis together, as one nation. God willing, we will come out stronger when this crisis ends and the dust settles. InsyaAllah.

YAB Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin
Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister

This part of the speech is trending now on social media – for the right deserving reasons (for the record: whoever have been writing his speeches is a genius – saying the right things at the right time).

There are many opinions and views against him and how he became the Prime Minister. But whatever it is – currently he is now our Prime Minister (my Prime Minister, if not yours) and I’m fully with him at this point in time.

He is probably fated to take on the Prime Minister role during this critical time, it takes courage and focus to deal with this unprecedented situation. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to take on the problem full force just after taking the office, with millions of lives depending on your decisions and actions – literally on your shoulders.

For sure it’s not fun and games.

It’s a call of duty.

Salute to all the heroes out there.

Salute PM8.

Malaysians. The world. Together we can do this!
