Pace

It has been a long week for me personally with stuff happening at work and home.

At the home front, I continue to pray everyday that my special son doesn’t get bored (and irritated) staying at home for the next 3 weeks. We usually have our routine of visiting my mum at my brother’s place during the weekends but that routine needs to stop for a while. He hasn’t said anything and I hope he continues not to.

I’m sure everyone who has children is on the same boat as me. Just that as my has autism, his tolerance and coping mechanisms can be way off the chart – not in a good way. Breaking off routines are not easy for him to deal with and it’s not even his fault – he’s just wired that way.

Bracing myself and praying for the best for the next 3 weeks.

Anyway the busyness of the past few days has taken on me physically and mentally – like this morning was those moments I felt I was out of battery. I decided to pace myself a bit for the day so that I can cope with the days to come.

Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good.”

How true this is at the moment – personally for me, and I’m sure for many.

For those who face similar challenges working from home, feeling bad or guilty to either your family or the work you’re doing, as you struggle to balance the two – don’t beat yourself up, instead take a step back and give yourself a break.

Reenergize and reorganize yourself, build up those coping mechanism. Remember you don’t have to save the world – you can’t be perfect at everything.

So focus on those little things and continue doing it as it might make a bigger difference than you think.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Take on only as much as you can do of good deeds, for the best of deeds is that which is done consistently, even if it is little.”

Ibn Majah

Stay home. Stay safe. Stay sane.
