Five Before Five

It’s been a long day – after a long haul the night before comforting my one and only special son, followed by continuation of public worry on COVID-19, which is at the verge of being declared a pandemic, and last but not least, back to back meetings – I’m low on fuel.

But:

  1. the health panic, which actually represents everyone’s worry of unprepared death (which is never certain in the first place),
  2. the forecasted economic crisis expected to be just around the corner with market crashes and actual impact on people (sudden salary cuts involving three airlines) already happening,
  3. the busyness of work at the office where time just passes by without you noticing,

reminded and got me reflecting on this famous hadith:

The Prophet (PBUH) advised to: “Take benefit of five before five: Your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death.”

Narrated by Ibn Abbas and reported by Al Hakim

Such an apt advice for what we are facing – to reflect back on what truly matters and what exactly are we living for today.
